IN A MIRROR
February
of 1982 was a tense and confusing moment in my life
and it showed up in my writings. The song is meant to be a
sort of bastardized Irish Ballad. I tried to convey the message
that life can be hard and confusing at times
and that our memories become the mirror of our lives. There
are things that happen that we can understand
and those things that we can not. We make the choice to remember
and learn from these actions or bury them in the recesses
of our mind to be forgotten forever. This tune reminds us
of our children who are often the innocent victims
of the tortures of the mind and asks that we sense this as
men who must care and be there for them. The song goes on
to relate the message that even nature is rebelling against
us as we slowly destroy ourselves. The tune ends asking that
we as, Human Beings, be able to show love and understanding
to the rest of Humankind and receive the same Love
and Understanding in return.
When
you listen you may find different meanings or perhaps none
at all.
COUNT
ON ME
In late 1982, we wrote a straight-forward
Rock&Roll tune along the lines of Bad Company
& Deep Purple. I was driving down I-96 on
my way to pick up Pilsner, AR’s Keyboardist, when the
idea hit me. Lucky for me I didn't hit anything while driving
and writing at the same time. My record with accidents at
that time wasn't real good. When Jonas and I decided to record
this song we realized that we didn't have a copy of the music
or lyrics and it had been such a long time since either of
us had played the song we’d have to tax our brains a
bit to remember, but most of it came back pretty quick. We
wrote a new second verse but all went pretty smooth for a
couple of old guys. The song speaks to those you care about.
They should know they can count on you to
be there for them in their times of need and despair.
The second verse is meant to tell people that the strength
to conquer fears, worries and hard times is within
each of us. You can draw on that strength whenever needed,
and we will be there to for you.
We hope you enjoy this tune as much as we do playing it.
KIDS
GONE - GOOD!
In
2002 while I was on my way to Steve’s house,
to jam, drink beers and watch football. This is something
we would do on Sundays during the season. As soon as I got
there I said ”get on the drums I need to play
this song in my head before I forget it”. We
proceeded to work out the music and write lyrics. When Jonas
and I sat down to arrange the song, we took out a lot of verses. This
song is about families and growing up. This is why
at first it was so long, 'cause anyone who has a family can
have a lot to say. We go through birth and growing periods
with the pitfalls and light hearted moments that come with
raising a family. We get through sad times
and sibling fights and on to school, and then leaving home.
However, it ends with the message that no
matter how well your children grow they will always come back
to you for love and comfort; and when they
need something which seems to be quite often. We thought it
was about time someone wrote about good kids and good
families for a change. We hope when you hear this
tune it will remind you of happy or at least eventful moments
in your life. If it doesn't then the reminder was probably
in one of the missing verses and you will hear them in the
extended version.
Good
Luck in your life and enjoy.
MAN
ON THE MOON
This tune is ancient, if my memory doesn't
fail me, it was in late 1969. I was going to Montieth at Wayne
State, and trying to keep out of the military, which I did
but that’s another story. John and I were playing with
Loki at the time. I was just sitting back
one night playing my guitar and watching TV when I came up
with a chord pattern that I liked. It was sort of
a Jazz/Rock feel that was laid back just like I was
at the time. When I started writing lyrics, I was looking
out and seeing the full moon. It dawned on me that the Man
In The Moon did just that all the time. He just sits
up there and watches all the things that happen
on this earth. He sees all the good we do and all the bad,
recording it all in his memories. Dedicated to Uncle Andy
- Andrius Mamantovas -alias Man on the
Moon.
